Cut 1 strip 5 inches wide. Subcut into 4 Unit A & B squares.

Cut 1 strip 5 inches wide. Subcut into 2 Unit A squares.
Cut 2 strip 41/2 inches wide. Subcut into 1 Unit C square.

Cut 1 strip 5 inches wide. Subcut into 2 Unit B squares.

  • Match 1 square of each fabric right sides together.
  • Sew 2 parallel 1/4 inch seams.
  • Cut half way (21/2 inches) between seams; press seams to darker fabric.
  • Place two patch units rights sides together, opposite fabrics matching together, and snugging previously sewn seams.
  • Sew 2 parallel 1/4 inch seams crossing previously sewn seams.
  • Cut half way (21/2 inches) between seams; press seams to one side.
  • Makes 2 four patch units per fabric pair.

Unit A - fabrics 1 & 2; make 4.

  • Match 1 square of each fabric right sides together.
  • Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on wrong side of lighter fabric.
  • Sew 1/4 inch seam on both sides of diagonal line.
  • Cut units apart on drawn diagonal line.
  • Press seam to one side.
  • Units should measure 41/2 inches including seam allowance.
  • Makes 2 units per fabric pair.

Unit B - fabrics 1 & 3; make 4.
