1 - 12" block using 44" fabric bolt width.

Quarter square triangle units and squares make this traditional block.

Fabric 1: 
Unit A - Cut 1 strip 41/2 inches wide. Subcut strip into 4 squares.
Cut 1 strip 51/4 inches wide. Subcut strip into 2 squares.
Fabric 2: 
Unit B - Cut 1 strip 41/2 inches wide. Subcut strip into 1 square.
Cut 1 strip 51/4 inches wide. Subcut strip into 2 squares.

  1. Match 1 square of each fabric right sides together.
  2. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on wrong side of lighter fabric.
  3. Sew 1/4 inch seam on both side of diagonal line.
  4. Cut units apart on drawn diagonal line.
  5. Press seam to one side.
  6. Match squares right sides together to opposite fabrics.
  7. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on wrong side crossing previously sewn seam.
  8. Sew 1/4 inch seam on both side of diagonal line.
  9. Cut units apart on drawn diagonal line.
  10. Makes 2 units.

Unit C - fabrics 1 & 2; make 4.

Using 4 each of unit A & C, and 1 of unit B to sew block together as shown in layout with 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press seams to one side.
