Fabric 1
Cut 1 strip 21/2 inches wide. Subcut strip into 4 Unit A squares.
Cut 1 strip 3 inches wide. Subcut strip into 7 squares.
Fabric 2

Cut 1 strip 3 inches wide. Subcut strip into 5 squares.
Fabric 3

Cut 1 strip 3 inches wide. Subcut strip into 2 squares.

Figure 1
  • Match 1 square of each fabric right sides together.
  • Sew 2 parallel 1/4 inch seams.
  • Cut half way (2 inches) between seams; press seams to darker fabric.
  • Place both two patch units rights sides together matching opposite fabrics, snugging previously sewn seams.
  • Sew 2 parallel 1/4 inch seams crossing previously sewn seams.
  • Cut half way (2 inches) between seams; press seams to one side.
  • Makes 2 four patch units.

Unit B - fabrics 1 & 2; make 10.

[top]Half Square Triangle Instructions

  • Match 1 square of each fabric right sides together.
  • Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on wrong side of lighter fabric.
  • Sew 1/4 inch seam on both side of diagonal line.
  • Cut units apart on drawn diagonal line.
  • Press seam to one side.
  • Square up unit to 41/2 inches.
  • Makes 2 units per square pair.

Unit C - fabrics 1 & 3; make 4.

  • Using 5 of unit B and 4 of unit C, sew block together as shown in layout with a 1/4 seams.
  • Press seams to one side.

Makes 1 Block A.
